Bubbling Goopy Goo!

I remember in grade school maybe in Mrs. Calvert's class we played with Oobleck (cornstarch and water) and of course we loved our dinosaur week volcanos with baking soda and vinegar.

So why not play with both!

First I mixed 1 part baking soda and 1 part cornstarch and then added water until smooth.

Then I filled two small containers with vinegar and few drops of food coloring and headed to the dining room table.

At first we left the lids on the vinegar cups and just played with the liquid/solid mix oobleck mix!

Then the lids came off!

That was fun for a while....and then the DUMPING started!

About 45 minutes later and after adding more vinegar three times, Karl cleaned up the mess and Evin was off to play with some trucks and tractors!

4th of July Fun!

Whew!  What a busy day!  The 4th is an important day in our house and here's why:

1) Always been my favorite holiday
2) Some of the best memories with some of the best people happened on this day
a) lighting the Anthony Lake grass on fire with the Giesen clan
b) blowing up a mailbox with Jennifer Prouse
c) watching my dad light off the city fireworks at the lake
d) getting in to teenage trouble with Jennifer and Teri
e) awesome block parties with Krysten and Lisa
f) meeting my husband
g) watching Evin fall in love with the holiday too

This year I had the day off!

Here's what we did:

A'Merica Red-White and Blue Breakfast

Blue Eggs
Blue pancakes with white chocolate chips
Pancakes with strawberries and blueberries
Red milk
Fruit kabobs
Sausage and Bacon

Bike Wash Fun

Not quite finished but still fun!

Sidewalk chalk painting

1 cup cornstarch
1 cup water
food coloring

Fireworks with Evin

Karl learned what a "punk" was and Evin LOVED smoke bombs!

Evin's Glowstick Firework Show

It's a safe, fun, and cheap alternative.  Three boys at the park put on a 30 minute firework show by throwing glowsticks in to the air over and over and over again!  It was beautiful and funny and might have went on for hours!  Though impossible to photograph with an IPhone!

Camouflage!!!

Today storytime was all about flounder and flat fish and camouflage!

Evin and I had some fun in the backyard trying to camouflage some of his favorite animals!

We pointed out which animals matched and which fish didn't!

Not ready for trekking through the backyard?  That's okay you can color sort anything and everything on to paper, cups, plates, or toys.

And if that's still not your cup of tea, try a color matching safari inside!  You hide the animals and they find them!  For the older ones hide them through the whole house!  For the younger ones stick with just one room or if they can't walk yet try just within reach or view!
